Well I guess it's time for a quick update. Not too much is going on lately....
We didn't really do too much for the 4th of July. We got the kids dressed up and took them to watch the parade of course. This was the first year that the kids have watched the parade and not been in it, since I didn't enter them in the Lil Miss and Lil Mister contest this year.
The Lil Miss and Lil Mister contest (as most of you know) is a contest held in our little town to raise money for something (I don't know what LOL Maybe the 4th of July "committee" I'm going to guess...) Anyway, the way it's worked in the past is that you enter your child(ren) by filling out a form with their name and age, then submitted a picture of them to be placed inside the General Store. The pictures go up on giant jars and then people "vote" for your child by placing their change or any amount of money into that child's jar. Come 4th of July, the child with the most money in their jar "wins". During the parade, all the kids entered get to ride on a float or in a train car (if they're old enough) and the winners are announced at the end of the parade.
Now obviously you can tell just by reading this whole thing is really a "popularity" contest so to speak, and obviously the family who puts the most money in their kids jar is going to be the winner, BUT from a parent's perspective, especially from the perspective of a parent who clearly loves to show off her children *cough cough*, it's totally fun to have your kids pictures up in the store for 2 weeks. That's the best part :) Hence, why we didn't enter this year. They cut out the part where the kids' pictures go up in the store. o_O Yeah. All you did this year was if you wanted to "nominate" a child (and of course people would nominate their own kids) you just put their name on a slip, attached money to it, and stuck it in one of the three jars around town, so of course who's ever mom/dad put in the most money, that kid won. Boring right? I mean, generally that's they way it worked anyway, but no pics in the store? Bummer. So this year the kids didn't get entered, which actually worked out great. I didn't really miss it all and neither did they.
They got to watch the whole parade with me, Whit, Grandma and Papa, Grandma Sheri, and Grandpa Poston. Daddy had to work as he usually does...which sucked, but hey holiday pay isn't all that bad, plus with his early shift he got off early enough to still BBQ and swim with us and enjoy the rest of the day. During the parade the kids got to pick up candy, which they didn't really get the hang of at first, but everyone helped me help them and they got quite a bit, which they definitely wanted to eat right away. It was super hot and Bro just pretty much sat in the stroller throughout the entire parade. Somehow mommy got sunscreen in his eyes and they were just watering the whole time :( Stupid mommy.
After the parade we met up with more friends and headed toward the park. By this point the kids were anxious to run around so I took them out of their strollers at the park and spent the next 30-45 minutes chasing them around. We again had another incident of mommy by herself and Cooper needed to pee, so Grandpa Poston watched Chloe and I recruited Whitney to keep an eye on Brodie. Luckily the bathroom was right across the park, so we got that out of the way and the kids ran around and played the rest of the time. It quickly became way too hot, not only for the kiddos, but for mommy, so we met up with Grandma and Papa and headed on to spend the rest of the day in the pool. Yippee!
Wasn't too long before Daddy was home and we swam some more, had some snacks and beers, and BBQed ribs and corn. The end. (of 4th of July anyway...)
And the kids are doing great of course. Cooper has had a rough few nights, starting on the 4th, but I'm not entirely sure what's up with him. He's felt warm each night and had a slight fever. The first night I thought it was just from being in the sun too much. He seemed really uncomfortable, tossing and turning, and saying his tummy hurt and that he needed to throw up (but he didn't). Same thing the second night, and a little last night. He also started to say his "mouth" hurt or his "teeth" hurt, but he has no more teeth to come in so I think his throat may have been hurting, but he only knew to describe it has mouth or teeth. I've recently had a little "sore throat" problem after the last 10 days or so that was really awful for the first three days, so I think he might have come down with that (whatever "that" was).
And Chloe's doing great. Becoming more of a diva everyday. Yesterday was Josh's Sunday, so him and I were having a "semi" serious conversation in the bedroom while the kids were watching Umi Zoomi, but Chloe wouldn't have it. She kept walking in "crying" (her fake cry) asking Daddy for all sorts of things, which he would course get up and get her hoping that we could finish our talk....but she was never satisfied and really just didn't like the fact that we were talking and Daddy's attention was "off" her. Of course we tried the "Mommy and Daddy are talking so please don't interupt unless it's an emergency" thing, but her response..."I talka Daddy. Daddy I needa talka you." Yeah Diva. In the car when Josh and I are talking in the front seat, Chloe's in the back going, "Daddy. Daddy. Daddy!" until Josh answers, "Yes Chloe?" Her response, "Hi Daddy." Yep. We've got problems... LOL
And Bro's doing marvolous as well. Talking up a STORM. It's ridiculous. This morning when we woke up, he was standing in his crib, so when I got up to get him he looked up at me and said, "I get up". I swear. He said it THREE times. Now of course it wasn't clear as day like a two year old would say it, but that's what he said and I could easily make it out. I'm not even kidding. My mom always told me that I was talking in complete sentences at 15 months old and I never believed her (still don't know if I do LOL), but I think I'm starting too. Brodie tries to say new words ever day and really IS trying to make sentences. In fact, he's in the room with me right now and just knocked something off the chair and said, "Uh oh. What dat?" and picked it up. Yeah crazy.
Well I guess that's it for now. Wasn't as "quick" of an update as I expected, but hey it never is huh? Anyway, thanks for checking in with us!
So adorable! I love hearing what your kids say!
